Turtle River, MN, 2022: On 06/11/2022 at approximately 4:15 PM, Beltrami County Deputies were advised of two horses that were stuck in a swamp in the Three Island County Park, Port Hope Township, Turtle River, MN (located approximately 2 miles northwest of Turtle River, MN).

Two individuals were riding horses on the Three Island County Park trail system. Due to the wet spring some of the trails were flooded. While on the trail, the horses began to sink into the bog. The horses spooked and ran further into the bog. The horse eventually stopped, sank into the bog and was unable to move.

The riders called 911. The riders were able to provide a good description of which trail they were on and the direction they were traveling. Law Enforcement was able to quickly locate the horses and riders.

Beltrami County Deputies were able to borrow 10 – 8x10 OSB sheets from the Bemidji Fire Department. Deputies used a tracked UTV to haul the OSB boards to the stranded horses and riders. Beltrami County Deputies, a MN DNR Conservation Officer, and a MN State Trooper used the 10 OSB sheets to create a floating bridge for the horses to walk on. Law Enforcement "leap frogged" the OSB sheets for approximately a quarter mile until the ground was solid enough for the horses to walk on. The riders and horses arrived back at the trailhead parking lot at approximately 8:30 PM.

The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office was assisted the MN DNR, MN State Patrol, and the Bemidji Fire Department.
